Choose purchases that represent your life
Before moving recurring spending, list the transactions you actually need: a software subscription, an online purchase and a travel booking, for example. Ask the provider whether your account, country and merchant categories are supported. Design the trial around those written answers. A successful purchase somewhere else is interesting, but it cannot answer whether the card fits your own routine or business requirements.
Inspect what happens after checkout
Keep a small diary with purchase time, displayed currency, merchant name, final amount and any support contact. Include one question that is easy to answer and one that needs investigation. Judge the quality of the explanation, not only response speed. At the end, identify which essential use cases remain untested before making the card your primary payment method or recommending it to colleagues.
Hypothetical example
A hypothetical freelance designer tests a card with a design tool and a stationery order. Both work, but the statement export omits the reference her accountant needs. She asks for a sample export before moving the rest of her subscriptions, avoiding an unnecessary bookkeeping change.
Make it practical.
