Test the real reading size

Open the exported PDF on a phone and inspect headlines, body text, tables and captions without constant zooming. Break dense pages into focused sections. Keep important information as selectable text rather than baking every page into an image. Avoid tiny source notes that disappear in the actual viewing context. A cinematic visual can still coexist with a clear reading path.

Provide practical navigation

Use meaningful document titles and clear section headings. Add internal navigation where the format supports it and check that links work in the exported file. Keep downloads reasonably sized by optimising imagery without destroying legibility. Offer a web summary for readers who need a quick introduction before downloading the full pack. The measure of quality is whether the intended reader can understand and use the information, not only how the cover looks in a desktop preview.

Put the guide to work

Ask a reader to find a specific answer while viewing the PDF on a phone. The task tests navigation and legibility together. If the answer is technically present but difficult to locate, improve the heading or page structure rather than assuming the reader will patiently search.

Imagine this

Hypothetical example

A project deck uses a dense financial table on one portrait page. The team splits the table into two clear pages with repeated headings and a concise summary. Mobile readers can compare the figures without losing their place through repeated zooming.

Make it practical.
